  2. The Authority calls to book the test, on a Wednesday or Thursday. The owner or a representative must be there for the whole test.
  3. The closing agent usually files the Authority's $35 Claim Letter application. Homes on the east side, served by Peters Creek Sanitary Authority, use that authority's form instead (724-348-6860).
Test when you list?
Yes, if closing is within a year. Any violations found must be fixed even if the sale doesn't happen.

Peters Township Sanitary Authority: Application for Dye Test Inspection

What happens during the test

  • Authority staff run dyed water onto and around the house and yard to find leaks into the sanitary sewer.
  • They confirm where the downspouts drain and check sump pumps, floor drains, cleanouts, vent caps and any manhole on the property.
  • The owner or a representative must be there for the whole test, with access inside the home.

If the test fails

Violations must be fixed and re-inspected before the Authority issues a certificate, even if the sale falls through. You choose the plumber or contractor for the repairs. If the work can't be finished before closing, the Authority may issue a temporary certificate backed by a repair contract and cash security. Call 724-941-6709 to ask.
